NORWICH MUNCHThe Norwich EABDSM Munch takes place in the "back bar" of The Golden Star pub, Norwich - which is on the junction of Duke St and Colegate. The Munch is easy to spot because there are only 2 bars in The Golden Star pub and the Munch is the room full of happy, garrulous and talkative people. (If you're still in doubt, the entrance to the ladies' toilets is in the same room!) The Golden Star is a regular Norwich pub that does most of its lunchtime and early evening trade with passing Norwich clerical workers. DATESThe Norwich Munch is held on the third Saturday of each month. It used to be on the second Saturday of the month but has been changed to better stagger the time periods between the Cambridge and Norwich Munches because a growing number of people like to attend both events. TIMESThe Norwich Munch runs from 8-11pm. Most people arrive at about 8.30-ish but some prefer to arrive early and enjoy the quiet start. Some of the Group moderators are usually in attendance until 11pm but, at that point, the Munch officially stops. AFTERWARDSAfter the Munch, some folk go on clubbing in and around Norwich, some remain in The Golden Star, and others go home for a cup of cocoa. A few even go off for some kinky mischief! FOOD, PIZZA & MONEYThe Norwich Munch usually has a quick collection for its Pizza Fund. Most people chip in a couple of quid each for a slice of pizza from a nearby takeaway. Any remaining money is used to fund EABDSM's overheads or to buy new bits and pieces for parties. PARKINGThere is a well-lit multi storied carpark (St. Andrew multi-storey, on Duke St.) about 1 minute's walk away from the Golden Star. Additionally, there is some parking to be found in the surrounding residential streets. If you are unfamiliar with Norwich, BEWARE OF THE COMPLICATED ONE-WAY TRAFFIC SYSTEM - you will certainly need a town map (available from most garages on the route into town) and you might find it easier to park in the first carpark that you find, then walk the remaining distance. RAILWAYSThe Golden Star pub is about 15 minutes' walk from Norwich railway station. The direct route from the station leads through the Prince of Wales Road club land area which can get a bit raucous on a Saturday night after 10pm. If you are in this part of town, we advise against drawing attention to yourself (in any way) and avoid groups of loud drunks. BUSESThe Golden Star pub is about 15 minutes walk from the Surrey Street bus station, where the city's buses often terminate. The walk to The Golden Star takes you through the city shopping area and market, which should be generally empty outside normal shopping hours. ACCOMMODATIONThere is a reasonably priced hotel less than a minute's walk from the Golden Star pub: Premier Travel Inn, Duke St, Norwich, Telephone: 0870-990 6632 If this hotel is full, you're probably best trying B&Bs on or around Dereham Road and Earlham Road, as the route to The Golden Star is easiest. |
